The great bangkok scam

those who've been to Bangkok or will be going, read this scam description. It's very accurate. I've met a scammer myself when I was there. They are very very very seasoned con artists who strategize (and work as teams) to create the impression that they are being helpful to you.

They pretend to be very concerned about which hotel you stay and when will you be flying off from bangkok and where you come from. From these info, they will be able to direct you to an accomplice who will tell you how cheap you can buy jewelry, tailored shirts, etc. They need to know how soon you fly off so that by the time you realize you've been conned, it's too late -you're on the plane-. Also, the further your hotel is from the gem store, the better. They claim those gem stores are only patronized by locals. The truth is, the opposite. Those shops overcharge, and are full of unaware tourists who pay for overpriced products.

This scam has been going on for as long as 20 years, maybe more. Tourists, beware!
